GMC tire sizes

We cover 17 GMC models across 38 factory fitments, spanning model years 1994 to 2024. The size that turns up most often on a GMC is LT245/75R16, followed by 275/50R22 and 265/65R18. Wheel diameters run from 15 to 24 inches, so the trim and wheel package matter as much as the model year.

GMC does not stamp an approval code on tires the way Porsche and BMW do, so any tire in the right size that meets the load index and speed rating on the door placard is a legitimate replacement. Pick on wet braking, tread life and price instead.

GMC is General Motors' truck and SUV brand, selling around 550,000 to 600,000 vehicles a year in the United States, almost all of them versions of Chevrolet products with different sheet metal and a higher trim ceiling. The Sierra pickup, the Yukon, the Acadia and the Terrain carry the volume, and the Denali sub-brand accounts for a large share of the profit. There are no GMC cars, so every fitment on this page is a truck, SUV or crossover size.

That makes GMC one of the most predictable makes on the site and one of the priciest at the top trims.

Tires on a GMC

GMC's original tires carry a General Motors TPC SPEC number molded into the sidewall, the GM original equipment marking listed in Wikipedia's tire code reference; it identifies a GM construction rather than acting as a brand approval, and replacement tires almost never carry it. Because GMC mirrors Chevrolet, the sizes are the same: a Sierra 1500 runs 255/70R17, 265/65R18, 275/60R20 or 275/50R22 through the trim walk, and the Yukon runs 265/65R18, 275/55R20, 275/50R22 or 285/45R22 on a Denali. The 2500HD moves to LT-rated sizes such as LT275/70R18 and LT275/65R20 that take 65 to 80 psi, and the 3500HD dually needs six tires.

Fitments are square everywhere, so rotation is straightforward. The Denali trims are where the money goes: a 22 inch tire on a Denali costs roughly double an 18 inch one for similar tread life, and it is the single biggest running-cost difference between a Denali and an SLE. AT4 and AT4X trims arrive on all-terrain tires from the factory, at 275/65R18 and 275/70R18, and owners of the road trims who tow or drive gravel often move to the same tires.

The models that matter

The Sierra 1500 is the volume model, on 255/70R17 up to 275/50R22 depending on trim, with 275/65R18 on the AT4 and 275/70R18 on the AT4X. The Yukon takes 265/65R18, 275/60R20 and 275/50R22, with 285/45R22 on older Denalis. The Acadia runs 255/65R18 or 235/55R20, the Terrain 225/65R17 or 235/50R19, and the 2500HD LT265/70R18 and LT275/65R20.

What owners find out later

A 3500HD dual-rear-wheel truck needs six tires, not four, and the inner rear pair is the hard one to check pressure on, so a slow leak there often goes unnoticed until the tire fails. The 22 inch Denali wheels are sensitive to potholes and the tires are expensive, which makes a winter downsize to 18 inch wheels a genuine saving rather than a comfort choice. LT tires on HD trucks run pressures three times a car's, and it is the door placard rather than the tire's stamped maximum that you set.

GM's direct TPMS needs a relearn procedure after rotation on most models, and the full-size spare on many trucks has no sensor.
