Pirelli was founded in Milan in 1872 by Giovanni Battista Pirelli and remains the tire brand most associated with high-performance European cars. It is the sole tire supplier to Formula 1 and is original equipment on a long list of Audi, BMW, Mercedes, Porsche, Ferrari and Lamborghini models. Since 2015 its largest shareholder has been China's Sinochem, though the company is still run from Milan. In the US, Pirelli operates a plant in Rome, Georgia and imports from Mexico, Brazil and Europe.

The core of the US lineup is the P Zero summer tire, the Cinturato P7 All Season Plus 3 touring tire, and the Scorpion family for crossovers and SUVs. Pirelli also sells a wide range of OE-marked tires (look for codes like MO, N0 or star on the sidewall) that match a specific car's factory specification, which matters for owners who want to replace like with like.

Prices are at Michelin level for performance tires and a bit lower for the touring lines. Warranties are decent but not class-leading: the Cinturato P7 All Season Plus 3 and Scorpion AS Plus 3 carry 70,000-mile coverage, while P Zero summer tires have none. Pirelli's honest weakness is tread life on its performance tires and a smaller dealer network than the American brands.

Made in the US at: Rome, Georgia.

Pirelli has built tires in the United States since 1988, when it bought Armstrong Rubber in New Haven, Connecticut, and since 2002 its US manufacturing and North American headquarters have been in Rome, Georgia, a robotized MIRS plant that makes premium, large-diameter and run-flat fitments. Most Pirelli tires sold in the US are still imported from the group's other plants, but a 1.2 billion dollar expansion approved in September 2026 will raise Rome's capacity to about 6 million tires a year by 2033. Pirelli is heavily represented as original equipment on premium and performance cars and is sold in the aftermarket through independent dealers, performance specialists and online retailers such as Tire Rack, plus chains including Discount Tire.

All figures are GROUP-level for Pirelli & C. S.p.A., which is a pure tire company, so group and tire-division figures coincide. FY2025 revenue was EUR 6,776.2m with adjusted EBIT of EUR 1,081.4m, an adjusted EBIT margin of 16.0% (2024: 15.7%); net profit EUR 530.7m. EUR converted at a rounded 1.12 USD per EUR (approximate 2025 average), giving about USD 7.59bn. Employees about 29,680 and 18 plants in 12 countries per Pirelli's own end-2025 company profile (older Wikipedia figures of 19 plants in 13 countries are from 2022 and were not used). produktion_mst = 74 is Pirelli's stated installed annual capacity of around 74 million car tires at the end of 2025, i.e. capacity rather than verified output; tonnage is not published, hence produktion_mton is null. Global rank 5 comes from Tire Business' Global Tire Report on fiscal 2024 tire sales of USD 7.3bn; no sourced market-share percentage was found, hence null. Latest public figures: fiscal year 2025 (preliminary results published February 2026).

Did you know?

  • Pirelli has been the sole tire supplier to Formula 1 since 2011 and its contract runs to 2027 - every F1 car on the grid rides on Pirelli rubber.
  • In September 2026 Pirelli approved a roughly 1 billion euro (about 1.2 billion dollar) expansion of its Rome, Georgia plant, aiming to lift it from about 450,000 tires a year to around 6 million by 2033 and add about 1,000 jobs.
  • Pirelli is the only one of the world's big tire makers that is entirely dedicated to the consumer market - no truck or bus tires - and 79 percent of its 2025 sales came from High Value products such as 18-inch-and-larger fitments.

Pirelli tires: common questions

Where are Pirelli tires made?

Pirelli has a US plant in Rome, Georgia that builds premium sizes, and it imports tires from Mexico, Brazil, Italy, Romania and other European plants. The country of origin is molded on the sidewall. Quality is consistent across plants because Pirelli uses the same specifications worldwide.

Are Pirelli tires worth it for a normal car?

For a family sedan, a Pirelli Cinturato P7 All Season Plus 3 is a good tire but not clearly better than a Michelin Defender2 or Continental PureContact LS at similar prices. Pirelli's real advantage is in performance and OE-specific fitments for European cars, where it often matches the original tire exactly.

What do the codes like MO, N0 or star mean on a Pirelli tire?

They are original-equipment approval marks. MO means Mercedes-Benz, N0 through N4 are Porsche, a star is BMW, AO is Audi and J is Jaguar. A tire with the mark was tuned for that car, so replacing with the same code keeps the factory ride and handling. It is not required, but it is a safe choice.
