About the Chrysler 300
The 300 was Chrysler's rear-drive full-size sedan, sold from 2005 to 2023 and available with Hemi V8s throughout. Tire buyers land here across a wide spread of fitments, from a 17-inch all-season on a base V6 to a 20-inch performance tire on a 300S or 300C, and the rear-drive layout makes winter tires a genuine safety question rather than a nicety. All-wheel drive was offered on V6 cars, which changes the calculation again.
Launched in 2005. Launched for 2005 on the new rear-drive LX platform, the 300 replaced the Concorde and LHS, used Mercedes-Benz-derived rear suspension and transmission hardware from the DaimlerChrysler era, and put a Hemi V8 back in a mainstream American sedan.

2005-2010
First generation (LX)
Upright, slab-sided body with a tall grille, a high beltline and a small glass area, a look that stood out sharply against the rounded sedans of the period. Base cars run 17-inch wheels with Touring models on 245/45R17, and the SRT8 uses 20s. The rear suspension and five-speed automatic come from Mercedes.
2011-2023
Second generation (LD)
Same hard points but a completely new body with a much larger glass area, LED lighting and a far better interior; the grille is wider and lower than the 2005-2010 car. Base and Touring trims run 235/55R17 or 245/50R18, while 300S and 300C models use 20s on 245/45R20. The 2015 facelift brought a mesh grille and an eight-speed automatic across the range.
What the press said
The original 300 was a critical hit, winning North American Car of the Year for 2005 on the strength of its looks, its rear-drive chassis and the return of the Hemi. The 2011 redesign was praised for fixing the cheap interior and the poor visibility, and the car aged into a reviewers' favorite for value: a lot of sedan, and a lot of engine, for the money. The criticism grew as the years passed, with testers noting an old platform, thirsty engines, dated infotainment on later cars and safety technology behind newer rivals. By the end most reviews treated it affectionately but concluded that its time had run out.
After a long and successful run the Chrysler 300 is headed for retirement—and none too soon.

US sales peaked at 144,068 in 2005, the 300's first full year, and fell steadily to 13,169 in 2023, its last.
Was it a success?
A commercial success at launch and a slow fade afterwards, kept alive far longer than its platform justified because it was cheap to build and profitable. Resale is poor, which makes a late V6 or 5.7-liter V8 one of the better used bargains in a large sedan, if you can live with the fuel bills. Reliability is mixed: the Pentastar V6 and 5.7 Hemi are both well understood, while electrical faults, the Hemi's lifter and camshaft wear, and suspension bushings on higher-mileage cars are the recurring costs.

Tire options on the Chrysler 300
Base and Touring 300s run 215/60R17, 245/45R17 or 235/55R17 depending on year, Limited trims often use 245/50R18, and 300S and 300C models come on 245/45R20. Nothing uses run-flats as standard and nothing is staggered on the mainstream cars, so a rotation is straightforward, though the SRT and 300C V8s wear performance-oriented rubber that wears faster and costs more. Factory tires have come from Michelin, Goodyear, Continental and Firestone, with all-season fitments on the volume cars and summer tires on some performance trims. The point worth emphasizing is drive layout: a rear-drive 300 on all-season tires is genuinely poor in snow, and the all-wheel-drive V6 version is much better but still limited by its tires, so a dedicated winter set on 17- or 18-inch wheels transforms the car. Load ratings are ordinary passenger ratings, and the 20-inch fitment is the one where owners most often step down a size for winter and for ride comfort.
