Rivian delivered its first R1T pickup in 2021 and now sells the R1T and the R1S SUV alongside a commercial van built for Amazon. Annual volume is around 50,000 vehicles, almost all in the United States. The vehicles are quad- or dual-motor electrics built for off-road capability as well as speed, and they are heavy: an R1T weighs roughly 7,000 pounds, more than a Ford F-250.

That weight is the single most important fact about Rivian tires, and it drives everything from load index to tread life.

Rivian stamps no approval code of its own, so the specification to match is the door placard, and on these vehicles the load index matters more than on almost anything else on this site. At roughly 7,000 pounds with instant torque at all four wheels, an R1T will wear a tire that is merely adequate far faster than the mileage warranty suggests, and underspecifying the load rating is not a theoretical risk. Both models run the same two fitments: 275/65R20 with the All-Terrain package and 275/45R22 on the sport wheels.

The 20 inch all-terrain is the one most owners choose and the only one with usable sidewall for gravel and trail work, while the 22 inch is a road tire on a heavy vehicle and is the one that gets damaged. Original tires are EV-specific versions with low rolling resistance compounds and, on the road fitments, often acoustic foam inside the tread to cut noise. Replacing an all-terrain with a conventional highway tire typically buys back 20 to 30 miles of range and costs ground clearance and grip, and replacing a foam-lined tire with a conventional one buys tread life and costs quietness.

The models that matter

The R1T pickup and the R1S SUV share both fitments: 275/65R20 on the All-Terrain package and 275/45R22 on the 22 inch sport wheels. There is no third size, which makes Rivian one of the simplest makes on the site to shop for. The catch is that the choice of patterns available in a load rating high enough for the vehicle's weight is narrow.

What owners find out later

An R1T weighs more than a Ford F-250 while being registered and tired as a light-duty vehicle, so a replacement tire chosen by size alone can be well under the load index the placard requires. Neither model carries a spare, and the 20 inch all-terrain tire is heavy enough that a full-size spare in the bed is a serious weight penalty rather than a casual accessory. Rivian's air suspension raises the body but does not change sidewall height, so the 22 inch package is still the vulnerable one on rough roads.
