About the Genesis G70
The G70 is the smallest sedan from Genesis, Hyundai's luxury division, and the car that convinced American reviewers the brand was serious. It is rear-wheel drive with optional all-wheel drive, sold with a turbocharged four or a twin-turbo V6. For tire buyers the important detail is that most G70s run staggered widths, front narrower than rear, which rules out rotation.

First generation (IK)
One generation, one body, split by a 2022 facelift. Pre-facelift cars have a pentagonal grille with a single crest badge and conventional headlamps; the facelift brought Genesis's two-line headlights and tail lights and a wider, lower grille. The 2.0T sits on 18-inch wheels, the 3.3T on 19s with Brembo brakes visible behind the spokes, and there is no shooting brake in the US.

The G70 arrived to something close to acclaim. It took MotorTrend's 2019 Car of the Year, made Car and Driver's 10Best list, and was named North American Car of the Year at the 2019 Detroit show, with reviewers praising the chassis balance, the steering and the amount of standard equipment for the money. The consistent criticisms are rear-seat legroom, which is tight even by compact sedan standards, trunk space, and fuel economy from the V6. Later reviews noted the loss of the adaptive suspension option as a step backward.

Was it a success?
The G70 was a critical success and a modest commercial one, selling in numbers that would embarrass a BMW 3 Series but which established Genesis as a real brand in America. Resale is the weak spot, because luxury buyers still discount the badge, which makes a three-year-old G70 one of the better value propositions in the used sport sedan market. Reliability reputation is good, helped by Hyundai's long powertrain warranty and by mechanicals shared with the Kia Stinger.

Tire options on the Genesis G70
Almost every G70 is staggered, and that is the single most important thing for an owner to know: the 2.0T runs 225/45R18 front with 255/40R18 rear, and the 3.3T runs 225/40R19 front with 255/35R19 rear. Front and rear tires are different sizes, so you cannot rotate them, and you replace in axle pairs. Factory rubber was Michelin Pilot Sport 4 or Continental ProContact depending on trim and whether the car was specified with summer or all-season tires; the summer-tire cars should not be driven below about 45 degrees Fahrenheit. None of the US fitments are run-flat, and there is no full-size spare, only a compact or a repair kit, so a puncture in a 255-section rear is a tow or a plug. Winter tires are available in all four sizes but the selection is much better in 18-inch, which is why a dedicated 18-inch winter wheel set is the common recommendation for 3.3T owners. Tread life on the V6 cars with summer tires is short, often under 20,000 miles on the rears.
