About the Ford Bronco
The Bronco is Ford's body-on-frame off-road SUV, sold in two long runs: the full-size 1980-1996 trucks and the reborn 2021-onward model built on the Ranger's T6 platform. Both versions are bought by people who change tires more often than most drivers, either because they lifted the truck or because the factory all-terrains wore out. Sizes here range from old-school flotation numbers to 37-inch tires fitted at the factory.

Third through fifth generation (full-size)
These are the two-door full-size Broncos with a lift-off rear roof, sharing sheet metal with the F-150 of the same era. The 1980-1986 trucks have square headlights in a simple grille, the 1987-1991 cars got flush aero headlamps and a rounded nose, and the 1992-1996 trucks added a taller hood line and a third brake light. Stock wheels are 15-inch, which is why almost every survivor runs an oversize 15-inch flotation tire.

Sixth generation (U725)
Boxy and upright, with round headlights joined by a lit bar and BRONCO spelled across the grille, offered as a two-door or four-door with removable roof panels and doors. You identify trims by tires more than badges: Big Bend and Outer Banks on 17-inch highway tires, Badlands on 285/70R17 all-terrains, the Sasquatch package on 35-inch mud-terrains, and the 2022-on Raptor on 37s under fender flares wide enough to need marker lights.

What the press said
The sixth-generation Bronco was received about as warmly as any new American SUV of the last decade, with reviewers praising the off-road hardware, the removable roof and doors, and the breadth of factory equipment. Criticism has been consistent too: wind noise with the hard top, hard interior plastics, and an exhaust note that does not match the styling. Early build quality, particularly hard tops, was a genuine problem Ford spent two years fixing. The older full-size Broncos are viewed as honest, simple trucks that are now worth restoring.
The brawny Bronco is a choose-your-adventure kind of SUV, equally at home performing doorless beach crawling, backwoods antics, and school runs.

The reborn Bronco built quickly from 35,023 US sales in its part-year 2021 launch to 146,007 in 2025; Ford separately recorded full-size Bronco production of between 25,000 and 62,000 units a year through the 1980s and early 1990s.
Was it a success?
The Bronco is a clear commercial success, running above 100,000 US sales a year since 2022 and pulling buyers away from the Jeep Wrangler. Resale has been unusually strong because demand outran supply for the first two years, and the Sasquatch and Raptor versions hold value best. Reliability reputation is mid-pack rather than bad: powertrains have been solid, while hard-top quality, minor electronics and early leaks dominate the complaint lists.

- Ford originally scheduled the 2021 Bronco reveal for July 9, then moved it to July 13, 2020, after realizing July 9 is O.J. Simpson's birthday.
- The first production sixth-generation Bronco, a First Edition, sold for $1,075,000 at the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale auction in March 2021, with the money going to charity.

Tire options on the Ford Bronco
This is a nameplate where the factory tire is the interesting part. The 2021-on Bronco ships on 255/70R17 highway tires at the bottom of the range, 285/70R17 all-terrains on Badlands, 315/70R17 mud-terrains with the Sasquatch package (that size is the metric equivalent of 35x12.50R17), and genuine 37x12.50R17 tires on the Raptor, making it one of very few production vehicles sold on 37s from the factory. Nothing is staggered and nothing is run-flat, and every version carries a full-size spare on the tailgate, which means the spare has to match the set or the four-wheel-drive system will object. Upsizing is close to universal: owners on 255/70R17 routinely move to 285/70R17 or 33x12.50R17 without a lift, and the Sasquatch fenders will clear 37s. On the 1980-1996 trucks the stock 15-inch fitment has largely been replaced by 33x12.50R15 or 35x12.50R15 flotation tires, which is what the aftermarket still stocks. Winter options are good in 255/70R17 and 285/70R17 and effectively nonexistent above 35 inches, where a studdable all-terrain is the practical answer.
