Kelly-Springfield Tire was founded in Springfield, Ohio in 1894 and was one of the earliest American tire makers. Goodyear bought it in 1935, and for ninety years Kelly has been Goodyear's price-fighter brand, sold mainly through Goodyear-owned stores and Goodyear dealers. Most Kelly tires are built in Goodyear's own US plants, which sets it apart from budget brands that import from Asia.
The lineup is compact and covers the basics. The Edge A/S and Edge Touring A/S are entry-level all-season tires for sedans and crossovers, the Edge HP is a value performance all-season, and the Edge AT is a budget all-terrain for pickups and SUVs. The tread designs are generally a generation behind the Goodyear equivalents, using proven rather than cutting-edge technology.
Prices are among the lowest you will find from a US-built tire, and Kelly tires are frequently discounted at Goodyear stores. Warranties are shorter than Goodyear's, typically 45,000 to 60,000 miles, but they are backed by the same nationwide network. The honest trade-offs are more noise, less wet grip and shorter tread life than Goodyear or the mid-tier Asian brands. For an older car, a second vehicle or a lease that is ending soon, Kelly is a reasonable way to buy a domestic tire for little money.

Kelly is a US-market brand with a 130-year American history, founded in Springfield, Ohio in 1894 and a Goodyear property since 1935; Kelly-Springfield's own headquarters in Cumberland, Maryland was folded into Goodyear's Akron operations in the 1990s. Today Kelly is Goodyear's budget tier, produced inside Goodyear's manufacturing network (Goodyear does not publish which plants build which brands), and sold through independent tire dealers, Discount Tire, Walmart and online retailers.
Kelly has no separate accounts: all financial and workforce figures are Goodyear group-level from the Form 10-K for the year ended December 31, 2025 (filed February 10, 2026), in USD with no conversion. Goodyear discloses no Kelly-specific revenue, volume or margin. Operating margin 5.8% is Goodyear's total segment operating margin for 2025; GAAP 2025 was a loss year ($1,721m Goodyear net loss after a $674m impairment and a US deferred-tax valuation allowance). 36 = tire plants worldwide (49 manufacturing facilities of all types in 19 countries); 158.7 million tire units excludes motorcycle, aviation and race tires; global market share is null for lack of a primary source; rank 3 is Goodyear's position in Tire Business' Global Tire Report, 40th edition, on fiscal 2024 tire sales. The HQ is the parent's, because Kelly-Springfield no longer has a headquarters of its own.
Kelly through the years
- 1894Edwin S. Kelly and Arthur W. Grant found the Rubber Tire Wheel Company in Springfield, Ohio to build Grant's patented solid rubber carriage tire.
- 1899The business is bought by the McMillin group and renamed the Consolidated Rubber Tire Company.
- 1914The company takes the name Kelly-Springfield Tire Company, the name the brand has carried ever since.
- 1921The first tire is built at Kelly-Springfield's new plant in Cumberland, Maryland, which runs for 66 years until 1987.
- 1935Goodyear buys Kelly-Springfield, and Kelly becomes a sister brand to Goodyear.
- 1969Kelly-Springfield opens the Fayetteville, North Carolina tire plant on December 13 - at the time the largest tire factory in the world.
